History ~ The Restaurant Terroir La Cachette
Chef Alain Levesque and his wife, Patricia Keyes, originally opened La Cachette in 1995 in Elora, Ontario. In it's five years of operation there, the restaurant received serious attention. It was recognized in Where to Eat in Canada and Toronto Life Restaurant Guide for five years running, as well as being included in numerous other guides, articles, and cookbooks.
The Provençal restaurant operated in that location, on the banks of the Grand River, until August 2000, when the opportunity arose to move to the Niagara region. Terroir La Cachette re-opened its doors in September 2000. As "terroir" implies, the restaurant showcases regional wines and ingredients, although the Provençal style remains at the base of our cuisine.
The building in which the restaurant is housed was originally a fruit cannery in the 1930's, and was a focal point of the community at that time. The original structure has been retained, although the interior has been completely re-modeled. In the restaurant, large windows overlook Four Mile Creek, and the décor is warm and contemporary.
In its early life in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the restaurant continues to command the attention of reviewers, locals, and tourists alike.
